Positive Change
Amy Galvin – Head Prefect
Amy Galvin has attended Queen Margaret College since 2004
when she started in Year 2. The Berwick supporter was a shy child
but her parents thought the welcoming, close knit community of
the College would bring her out of her shell. Amy says it certainly
did! “I’m quiet at first but once I warm up, I’m cracking jokes (often
terrible ones) left right and centre.”
Amy dabbles in a bit of everything when it comes to extra-
curricular activities, but has a stronger interest in the Arts. She
enjoys Basketball, Netball and Volleyball because
she likes being part of a team and meeting different
people. She has also taken part in the Sheilah Winn
Competition and has been involved with Speech
and Drama over the years.
In the classroom, Amy enjoys subjects where
she can be creative and particularly enjoys English,
Film and Theatre, which she is studying as part of
the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Amy’s favourite memory of Queen Margaret College so far has
been the OPC (Outdoor Pursuits Centre) in Year 12 because of
the bonds that were formed between her classmates. “It was great
to overcome not only personal fears but to be pushed outside our
comfort zone as a group and discover how we can deal with the
positives and negatives of every situation.”
Amy has enjoyed her time at Queen Margaret College.
“The thing I love about the College is the community, how you
can share a smile with anyone in the corridor.”
Amy is very excited about the year ahead and is looking forward
to seeing what can be accomplished by the Prefect team and by the
College as a whole.
She leaves us with the quote, “comparison is the thief of joy.”
“I think this is really important and is something that I constantly
have to remind myself – we all have our own unique strengths and
weaknesses.”
Sabrina Kao – Deputy Head Prefect
Supporting our new Head Prefect is Sabrina Kao. This Glamis
girl started at Queen Margaret College in Year 9. Sabrina says it
was the extra-curricular opportunities available at the College that
appealed to her.
Sabrina describes herself as someone who you can rely on to get
the work done. Music and Science are her strong subject areas. This
year she will be studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics,
English, Japanese and Music.
Outside the classroom Sabrina loves to play
Netball and Volleyball because she enjoys being
part of a team. Passionate about music, Sabrina has
also been playing piano and flute since she was very
young. Sabrina comments, “I enjoy them because
I believe that music is powerful way to convey
feelings and emotions.”
Her favourite memory of Queen Margaret
College so far is taking part in the
Shared Harmonies
concert in
2014. She says it was a wonderful experience and she enjoyed being
part of a large choir and orchestra.
Sabrina is feeling both nervous and excited for the upcoming
events in 2015. “I am looking forward to Spirit Week and House
Music where the whole school really gets involved and is full of
energy.” Sabrina wants to encourage unity and school spirit in her
year as Deputy Head Prefect. Supporting a number of charities is
also one of her top goals for the year.
“I’m really excited for this year and I hope that everyone is
prepared to have an amazing time at Queen Margaret College in
2015!”
Sabrina leaves us with her best piece of advice.
“You need to challenge yourself and take calculated risks because
fear of failure has killed more dreams than failure itself.”
