Issue 52 – February 2015 – QUEEN MARGARET CALLING
A
at the end of last year students from
Years 4, 5 and 6 participated in the
Aquathon, which is fast becoming
an annual event.
The girls, known as Aquathon Angels,
were required to swim one length of
Thorndon Pool and run one kilometre
before tagging the next person in the team
of three.
The Year 4 girls were responsible for
organising this event in aid of the Mary
Potter Hospice. The Aquathon raised
$2,380.00, which was donated to the Mary
Potter Hospice.
They also took responsibility for
organising goodie bags packed with items
for the competitors and selling T shirts as
part of the fundraiser.
Racing for Charity
Queen Margaret College
Junior School girls donned
their swimming togs and
running shoes last year to
raise money for a good cause.
Year 4 teacher, Jane Heather-Sclater, says
an Aquathon was chosen as a fundraiser
because it is a challenging but achievable
team event. It was also a great way to test
the girls’ organisation, communication and
physical skills. Jane comments the event
was an extremely uplifting and humbling
experience for the girls and families.
“We remembered all the parents, friends
and past students who had been touched in
some way by the Hospice organisation.”
The Aquathon was supported by the
extended Queen Margaret College family.
Thank you to the Mark Family for the
barbeque lunch following the event and to
the following families for spot prizes: Gees,
Abernethy, Jelley, Kheera, Brandon, Howell,
Bole, Webb, Welsh, Fordham-Duncan,
Carter,
Roberts,
Phillips,
Schofield-
