T

his talented pair played in the National Junior Team Event

tennis tournament as part of the Central 14s team and came

home with a gold medal.

The girls travelled to Auckland for the four day competition held

at the Scarbro Tennis Centre to face some tough competition.

Junior tennis players from around the country came and

represented one of the six New Zealand Regions.

The combined boys and girls Central 14s team played a mixture

of singles and doubles and won all five rounds and their overall age

grade.

Ivy, who was the first ranked female player for Central, played

five singles and four doubles games.

She was particularly strong in the doubles winning four from

four with team mate George Stoupe.

Central itself did exceptionally well at the competition and were

ranked second overall.

Jourdan, who was reserve for the Central 14s team, enjoyed the

opportunity to play against some of the top junior players in New

Zealand.

“Our team faced some tough matches but everyone was on top of

their game.” Jourdan says.

Jourdan and Ivy are proving a formidable pair on the tennis

court with a host of recent achievements.

Ivy won the 2015 College Sport Wellington Junior Singles

Tennis stars Ivy McLean and Jourdan Craig have won a national title.

Championships while Jourdan, hot on her heels, placed second.

In 2015 Ivy also won theWanganui Junior Open for her age group

and Jourdan placed second at the Central Region RPC tournament.

More recently, after winning the gold with the Central 14s this

month, Jourdan and Ivy both played in the 2016 16U New Zealand

Junior Championships and Jourdan won her round of the 16 & U

Mixed Doubles Tier 4 with team mate Hamish Arbuckle.

At only 14 years of age, these young tennis players will be worth

watching for in the future.

Rowers Race To Victory

R

owers Bridget-Anne Horgan (stroke), Megan Wilson, Sarah

Bagley, Kate Welch, Lily Symes, Elizabeth Jensen, Charlotte

Lynch, Amber Jiang and Bridie Sheedy (cox) won the

Womens Club Coxed Octuple Sculls A Final.

As this was the first time the Womens Club Octuplet race has

been staged at a Karapiro Regatta, Queen Margaret College has

made history by becoming its very first winners.

Overall the College performed exceptionally well at the regatta

held at Lake Karapiro, making five finals.

Rosie Dossor (stroke), Emily Young, Elizabeth Jensen, Kate

Boswell and Sofia Udovenko (cox) placed third in their initial heats

with a time of 9:13.91 seconds before placing eighth in the B Final of

the Womens Novice Coxed Quad Sculls.

Saskia van der Wilt was hard to beat in the water coming second

in the C Final Girls U17 Single Sculls. She joined forces with Molly

Nicholson for the Girls U17 Double Sculls and came sixth in the C

Final.

Seasoned rowers Jessica MacPherson and Bella Smolnicki also

proved themselves in the water, placing sixth in the B Final for the

Girls U18 Double Sculls.

Queen Margaret College rowers went out on the water again the

Karapiro Christmas Regatta.

following month to compete in the Cambridge Town Cup at Lake

Karapiro and proved themselves as strong competitors once more.

They made twelve finals, six of which were A finals. The College

once again won the A Final of the Women’s Club Coxed Octuple

Sculls with a slightly different crew of Bridget-Anne Horgan, Sarah

Bagley, Lucy Poole, Emily Young, Lily Symes, Elizabeth Jensen,

Keeley Farrell, Amber Jiang and Emma Green.

Saskia van der Wilt was on top form once again coming third in

the B Final of the Girls U17 Single Sculls.
