R
ecently a group of 30 eager students were able to display
their second language skills at Lingofest, an annual drama
festival, which celebrates international languages.
Schools from all over the lower North Island came together to
perform mini plays in different languages at Newtown Community
and Culture Centre.
Our Junior School students performed French plays
Petit Cochon
and
Louis la Grenouille
, while Middle School students Victoria and
Sofia Ryan gave a performance in Spanish based on the book
Nacer
Bailando
.
Both the judges and audience enjoyed the performances,
A second language is a key component of all three International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes
taught at the College. The explicit value attached to instruction in, and the speaking, reading
and writing of second languages creates a curriculum which goes beyond tolerance of other
cultures to understanding empathy and to true international mindedness.

awarding Queen Margaret College students a number of awards.
Jessica Teh (Year 4) won the award for Cutest Pig, Florence
Bygraves (Year 6) won the award for Best Costume and Vishani
Amarasena (Year 5) won the award for Best Dancer.
For our Middle School performers, Sofia Ryan (Year 8) received
the award for Best Actress and Dancer and Victoria Ryan received a
special mention for her Spanish Pronunciation.
Victoria and Sofia enjoyed themselves and would absolutely take
part in Lingofest again.
“We liked seeing what other schools were learning and
performing what we had learnt,” Victoria comments.
