Issue 55 – February 2016 – QUEEN MARGARET CALLING
From the Board
W
hether you have a prior connection with the College
or not, all 110 students and their families already have
one thing in common with the rest of the College
community and that is you are seeking out the best education for
your daughter. As a father of two Old Girls, I can assure you that you
have made the right decision.
The College has started 2016 with a record roll of 700 and every one of these students contrib-
utes to the vitality and diversity of Queen Margaret College. I would like to extend a warm wel-
come to our 110 new students. Some of them have siblings at the College, others are daughters,
nieces or grandchildren of Old Girls, as well as those who are related to staff members or who
are neighbours and friends. Queen Margaret College is full of connections but we also welcome
many who have no prior connection to the school. There are students relocating from Aus-
tralia, the USA and Trinidad & Tobago and those who have lived in Wellington their whole life.
As you see in this edition of QMCalling, there is a long list of girls
who have achieved outstanding results in their 2015 examinations.
I congratulate those students and also Carol Craymer and her team
on supporting the girls of Queen Margaret College to excel in both
the IB Diploma and NCEA.
It is pleasing for the Board of Governors to see that the increase
in our roll has occurred across the school with classes added at Year
1, Year 5, Year 8 and Year 10.
As part of the continued improvement of our facilities, we also
start 2016 with sprinklers throughout the entire Craven Block and
two of the Craven Laboratories refitted in time for the first day of
the school year. While the new Physics laboratory is still a work in
progress, I am thrilled to see what has been achieved at the College
within the short period of time that the summer break provides.
Lastly I would like to congratulate our brother school, Scots
College, on achieving the milestone of 100 years. This is an admirable
feat and I wish them all the best with their centenary celebrations
throughout 2016, the first event of which involved a parade of staff,
students and Old Boys from our site Hobson St (where Scots was
founded) to Parliament.
So what’s next for the Queen Margaret College Board of
Governors … well I encourage you to watch this space.
