2 | InTouch SPRING 2026 Kia ora koutou, It is a privilege to write to you for the first time as Chairperson of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand. As many of you will be aware, Trevor Jenkin has resigned from his position as Chairperson of MDANZ in August 2026. I want to begin by acknowledging Trevor and the enormous contribution he has made to our Association. Trevor has given an extraordinary amount of his time, energy and heart to MDANZ, always driven by a deep commitment to people living with neuromuscular conditions and their whānau. His leadership, advocacy and many years of dedicated service have left a lasting mark on our organisation and community. I am personally grateful for everything he has contributed and for the support and guidance he has provided over many years. Following Trevor’s resignation, I have stepped into the role of Chairperson to provide continuity and leadership for the Association. Jessica Barnes has been appointed Vice- Chairperson and will work alongside me and the National Board as we guide MDANZ through this period of change. FROM THE DESK Kōrero with Scott Scott Boyle Chairperson New leadership, same heartbeat. Our immediate priorities are to maintain the stability and continuity of the Association, support our staff and volunteers, and ensure MDANZ continues delivering responsive services for its members. We are also actively addressing the gap in operational leadership and will provide further information once the appropriate arrangements have been confirmed. While recent leadership changes have brought a period of transition, our purpose remains unchanged: supporting people with neuromuscular conditions and their whānau, strengthening connections and ensuring our community’s voices are heard. This spring edition of In Touch captures that purpose beautifully. The stories of our members remind us of the importance of belonging, opportunity and having the right support around us. Alongside Jess and the National Board, I am committed to guiding MDANZ forward with care, transparency and a strong focus on the people we serve. We remain firmly committed to MDANZ’s member-led values and to representing and supporting people living with neuromuscular conditions and their whānau throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Thank you to our members, families, staff, volunteers, branches, supporters and funders for everything you contribute to our community. We appreciate your patience and support during this transition and will keep members informed of significant developments. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. I hope you enjoy this spring edition of In Touch . Ngā mihi Trevor and Joy Jenkin
