Issue 57 – October 2016 – QUEEN MARGARET CALLING
MENTORING OUR YOUNG ATHLETES
The Sports Department was a hive of activity in Term 3 with exchanges, tournaments and
workshops keeping everyone busy.
HEALTHY COMPETITION: Year 7 and 8 QMC and Dio after a fantastic sports exchange.
Basketball
Netball
Hockey
SKILLS AND DRILLS: Netball England put our young netballers through their paces.
One of the highlights of the term was the Year 7 and
8 Diocesan Sports Exchange.
This multi-sport tournament was held in Auckland
last year but this time Queen Margaret College
played host to the event.
Our girls squared off against teams from Diocesan
School for Girls and St Oran’s College in hockey,
netball and basketball.
It was a close tournament but in the end Diocesan
came away with the trophy after winning on points
overall.
Another highlight of the Term 3 sports calendar
was a visit from players of the England Indoor
Netball team, who ran a netball skills and drills
session with our aspiring Silver Ferns.
The challenging session was led by co-captains of
the women’s team, Clare Elsley and Tallisa Haynes,
who won Gold at the recent 7s Championship at the
Indoor Netball World Cup.
Year 8 student Lola Gonzalez Boddy learnt some
useful passing and defensive techniques which she
will definitely be using on the court next year.
“They gave great advice and the activities were
very fun,” Lola says.
“We were lucky to have them share their
experience with us.”
