Issue 50 – June 2014 – QUEEN MARGARET CALLING
France
Everything you read, heard or said all had to be
translated on the spot and you could never get such
an involving experience like that working on French
assignments at home.

Seven Queen Margaret College and nine
Scots College students enjoyed three weeks in
France during the April holidays. This is part
of an annual exchange with our brother school
and a co-educational school Lycee Baudimont
which is located in Wellington’s sister city, Ar-
ras.
We travelled to Saint Maclou where we talked locals
including a four-year-old boy whom I chatted to
about his colouring in and sticker books. This was
a highlight because I noticed how much I had im-
proved over the trip in being able to have a normal
conversation in French, out of the classroom situa-
tion.
Paris was amazing, the history, the Arc de Triomphe,
Tour Eiffel and just around the streets were unforget-
table sights. The cuisine is exquisite. I did enjoy tast-
ing snails, frog's legs and foie gras. You could almost
say it completed the experience.

The sunsets every night never failed to be absolutely
astonishing. I went to a beach in Dichato which was
really beautiful and on a boat ride with my host fam-
ily. The sunsets in Chile are something I will never
forget.

I learnt that Chileans are not timely people. They are
always late - even to class (e.g. PE starts at 2.15 and
students start showing up at 2.30).

I was also inspired by the street art and art museum
in Valpairaso and am now creating a photography
project for IBD Art.
