LEAVING BEHIN S he learned about the Neurological Foundation and its important work after her son died, and instantly knew it was something she wanted to support. She was horrified when she learned the Foundation does not receive any government funding. Sadly, Barbara also lost her daughter, Melanie, last year. Melanie had cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and was in care for the majority of her life. After enduring so much, Barbara is passionate about supporting neurological research, and hopes no other family has to go through what they did. “Having personally seen the effects of glioblastoma on patients and families, I would love a breakthrough in that area,” Barbara says. Aware that all research is beneficial, Barbara’s estate will be left to general research into all neurological conditions. A MOTHER’S GIFT TO HONOUR HER CHILDREN Barbara Pritchard made the generous decision to gift her entire estate to the Neurological Foundation in honour of her son, Gareth, who died from brain cancer in 1997. 16 Headlines
