WINTER 2023 InTouch | 13 I thoroughly recommend this camp to any young people out there who have CMT. I was made to feel at ease as soon as I got there, and it felt like I was being welcomed into a big family. THANKS MDA, FOR THE BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES CMT Australia Kids Camp On the 2nd April, 25 children and young adults met for a weekend of highs (literally) in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, at this year’s CMT Aussie Kids Camp. They made it up via chairlift (with their wheelchairs) to the Thredbo Top Station at 1950m and a walk/wheel to the Kosciusko Summit lookout for some. They made their way back down via Bobsled; the 700m Alpine Bobsled track twists and turns its way down the mountain whilst you control the speed with a brake on your sled. Challenging for some, but they all did it! Later some enjoyed a swim, others golf or archery, and night activities saw a new twist on the game ‘Twister’, chess and more. All came for fun and friendship and went home happy. Every year, CMT Australia runs a camp for kids aged 10 and over who are affected by CMT. The camps were developed as a way to allow kids with CMT to meet, socialise, share experiences and engage in adventurous and non-adventurous activities in a fun camp atmosphere. The fund has helped members purchase specialised sports equipment, participate in sporting events, it has contributed towards the cost of obtaining a mobility dog, provided mobility equipment, and assisted with career development such as university and course fees.
