Help make sure CP is seen THE NEWS This October we’re calling on you to help celebrate acceptance, understanding and inclusion of people who live with Cerebral Palsy – Hōkai Nukurangi, and all you need to do is show up in green! October is our annual Be Green & Be Seen – Kia kākāriki, kia kitea campaign – timed to coincide with World Cerebral Palsy Day, on October 6. We’re calling on New Zealanders to turn their early childhood centres, schools and workplaces green – the international colour of Cerebral Palsy. The funds raised during Be Green & Be Seen will ensure the Society can continue providing members with vital things like access to swimming lessons and gym sessions, household items to make life easier, transport and counselling. Cerebral Palsy Society General Manager Clare Williams says getting involved in Be Green & Be Seen is as simple as “wearing green and giving gold” for a dress up day at school, hosting a green- themed bakesale at your sports club, having a shared morning tea at the office or running a “best dressed” competition. “It’s a chance to continue to build a community where everyone is included, valued and celebrated,” she says. “Every effort to increase knowledge and understanding, and to make sure that people who live with Cerebral Palsy are seen, makes a difference. “We’ve had wonderful support from generous schools and businesses over the years. We’re looking forward to members approaching their schools, clubs and workplaces and seeing more people stepping up in green next month,” Clare says.
