IN BRIEF SOCIETY SNIPPETS COST OF LIVING WITH CP How has CP affected your finances and quality of life? An Auckland University research project wants to know your thoughts and experiences about the cost of living with CP in Aotearoa. As a thank you for completing their survey you can go in the draw to win one of two $250 grocery vouchers. The survey is part of a doctoral research project, being run in conjunction with the Cerebral Palsy Society and the New Zealand Cerebral Palsy Register. It aims to understand the financial and economic impact of Cerebral Palsy on individuals and caregivers. Members are encouraged to complete the 30-to-75-minute survey – the information it produces will be very valuable to the Society as well as the researchers leading the study. Hosted by The New Zealand Cerebral Palsy Register and the Cerebral Palsy Society, the MICHAEL TURNER – VOLUNTEER AWARD Congratulations to CP Society member Michael Turner who was recognised for his volunteer work at Burwood Hospital, Christchurch in June. Michael, one of the Society’s Coffee Group hosts, has been volunteering at the hospital for 20 years. He helps in the mailroom, delivers mail around the hospital, collects pharmacist bags for refilling, and medical record bags. Michael says he enjoys “giving back”. “I have had lots of help from Burwood so me volunteering is my way of giving back and I enjoy it.” THANK YOU FEODOR Feodor Tarrant-Hill, 28, has raised $1,135 for the Cerebral Palsy Society by cycling in his lounge. Over a 24-hour period in July, Feodor spent 17 hours and 38 minutes cycling 284kms using Zwift (a virtual training programme). He lives with hemiplegia, which affects his right side, and impacts his balance, coordination and causes his body to tire easily. Feodor, 28, did the challenge because he wanted to find out what he can achieve and show others what’s possible.
