WELCOME Kia ora koutou katoa, Here we are – it’s almost the end of November. The weather has certainly warmed up, Covid-19 lockdowns are well in the past, and Christmas is just around the corner. What a great feeling! What a year it’s been. We’ve had so many highlights and it’s been wonderful to sit back and reflect on 2022 as I write this. Two of the Society’s major milestones this year have been the publication of our first Annual Impact Report, and running our annual national campaign Be Green & Be Seen. It was a big job to pull the Annual Impact Report 2021- 2022 together. The report meets compliances relating to service performance reporting standards, required by our auditors. We’re really proud of the result. It’s given us a wonderful opportunity to tell our story and provide members, funders, and other stakeholders with our key aims and objectives, and provide an update on howwe have been achieving our goals. Be Green & Be Seen 2022 was a great success – we loved seeing members, early childhood centres, schools, business, organisations, politicians and fellow charities, get behind us to raise awareness of living life with Cerebral Palsy, and raise funds for the Society. This year we’ve carried out two surveys – one was about access to driving lessons and accessible vehicles, and the other was a Our recent AGM marked the end of Pippa Huddleston’s time on the Board. Pippa had served on the Board for almost two years, and her experiences outside of the Cerebral Palsy Society certainly meant that she was a real asset to our team. Thank you for everything. I’d like to congratulate Murray Waring on his election to the board. We look forward to working with Murray over the coming year. It’s certainly been a full on and exciting year, and I know the Board and staff would join me in saying we can’t wait to see what 2023 holds. All the best for a safe, happy and warm festive season. Ngā mihi, Catch up with Clare Clare Williams General Manager member survey around advocacy. The information we received has been very useful in helping us shape and plan things for the year ahead. Watch this space! There are so many other highlights from 2022 – hosting our virtual coffee groups Connecting Over Coffee; our in-person Coffee Groups starting up again; the creation of a strength-based Te Reo word for Cerebral Palsy ( Hōkai Nukurangi – to achieve what is important to you ), continued funding of the e-Card programme, and meeting up with so many members at various expos around the country. In the wider disability sector, it was wonderful to see the launch of the Ministry for Disabled People on July 1, and the Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill, for which submissions closed earlier this month. Member feedback played an important part in the Society’s submission. We really appreciate the time that members took to make individual submissions. SEP–DEC 2022 THE REVIEW | 3
