Aotearoa goes green for CP The Cerebral Palsy Society’s annual awareness and fundraising campaign supports Kiwis living with Cerebral Palsy. By MELANIE LOUDEN Last month, the Cerebral Palsy Society turned green. It wasn’t just staff who donned green – our members joined us, along with landmarks around the country, preschools, kindergartens, schools and businesses. It was all to support Be Green & Be Seen – the Society’s annual national awareness and fundraising campaign that ran throughout October. Why green? It’s the international colour for Cerebral Palsy. Why October? To coincide with World Cerebral Palsy Day held on October 6. The Society’s General Manager Clare Williams appreciates everyone who got involved. “To those who coloured their hair, held morning teas, fundraised, got their preschool or school involved, dressed up for the day, got their workplace involved – we couldn’t be more grateful. “Every one of you has made a difference when it comes to raising awareness of what Cerebral Palsy is and the challenges faced when you live with the condition.” Money raised during Be Green & Be Seen will support the Society’s getProgramme which funds transport, counselling, equipment, exercise and everyday essentials for members; as well as vital advisory services and social connection events. Clare says it’s not too late for people to make a Be Green & Be Seen donation. “Our Givealittle page is still open and we’d love your support. Just use the QR code to go straight to our Givealittle page. Your support is very much appreciated.” Fundraising and Partnerships Manager Anne-Elise Smithson is grateful to the many companies who got on board, including SideKick Accounting & Business Support who have branches across the South Island, Maersk, and branches from car dealership W.R Phillips. “We really appreciate all the landmarks around Aotearoa that went green for us – we had green support in Wellington, Whangārei, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Nelson, New Plymouth, Gisborne and Taupo!” For more information about Be Green & Be Seen, go to: www.cerebralpalsy.org. nz/be-green-be-seen A huge thank you to CP Society members Trish McQueen, Thomas Chin and Pippa Winstone and her family, for sharing their stories to help raise awareness throughout the campaign.
