WELCOME The past 12 months have been positive for the Cerebral Palsy Society as we support existing members, welcome new members and pursue research and advocacy opportunities. I’m grateful to the Society’s staff, management team and Executive Committee members who have worked hard throughout the year. I thank them for their commitment, dedication and passion when it comes to supporting our members and meeting the Society’s operational and strategic objectives. It’s been a wonderful year of providing advice and information to members, providing them with financial support and advocating for them. We continued to focus on the Society’s four strategic objectives: • Delivering a valued, national service to our members • Awareness and advocacy • Ensuring future organisational and financial stability • Driving research into Cerebral Palsy - Hōkai Nukurangi It’s my pleasure to share some of our 2025-2026 highlights with you. Direct support for members • We provided financial support on 1,082 occasions to members through our various grant and funding programmes • Disability information and advisory supports were provided more than 43,300 times • We held 90 events which were attended by more than 1,400 members and carers • We presented 20 educational workshops/presentations and published 12 research related articles. Advocacy The Society looks for any chance to engage in meaningful advocacy opportunities. Advocating to the Government, public bodies and the community is a vital part of ensuring that members receive the support they need and deserve. Some of the more notable advocacy projects and opportunities from this year include: • Joining the International Cerebral Palsy Society. It focuses on providing a Cerebral Palsy voice at a global level, networking so members can share, exchange and learn from one another’s expertise, and supporting efforts to increase awareness of Cerebral Palsy. • Making a submission to the Draft Carer’s Strategy Action Plan. The Action Plan focused on three priority areas; recognition and appreciation; health and wellbeing and financial security. The consultation was around a new ongoing, rolling Action Plan to address From our Chairman and General Manager Clare Williams General Manager Daniel Clay Executive Committee Chairman Celebrating the Cerebral Palsy Society’s successes in 2025-2026 core systemic issues. • Attending and presenting at Access Matters Aotearoa’s Accessible Futures Summit. Disability community leaders, policymakers and researchers came together. • Contributing to the NZ Disability Strategy Refresh. The strategy aims to improve outcomes for disabled people and focuses on key priority areas of education, employment, health, housing, and justice. • Making a written and oral submission to the Government’s Social Services and Community Select Committee on the Disability Support Services Bill. Member feedback formed the foundation of our submissions, ensuring they reflected the real-life impact of the proposed legislation.
