4 | InTouch WINTER 2026 NEWS ROUNDUP Chairperson Trevor Jenkin I have been actively involved with MDANZ for a number of years, including serving as Chairperson of the Northern Branch for the past 12 years and as Executive Chairperson of the National Board for over eight years. In addition, I facilitate the Bradley Jenkin Memorial Fund panel, supporting funding decisions that directly assist individuals and whānau living with neuromuscular conditions. My wife and I were honoured to be appointed as Life Members of MDANZ, reflecting our deep and ongoing dedication to the organisation and its mission. Through my governance experience, I have developed a strong understanding of the strategic, operational, and financial challenges facing MDANZ, as well as the opportunities ahead. I am committed to providing clear leadership, strengthening governance frameworks, and supporting a unified national approach that delivers for all members. I am passionate about representing our members, ensuring their voices are heard at a governance level, and leading the organisation through a period of change with stability, transparency, and purpose. Meet your new Board Vice-Chairperson Scott Boyle Over the last 12months as your Vice Chairperson I have worked tirelessly to represent our community on the national, and sometimes international stage. Immersing myself in the strategic and daily struggles we all face, and as a powerchair user with 31yrs experience living with SMA2 I passionately voice those struggles to the government. As one of the two MDANZ Reps for the Disabled People’s Organisations Coalition I have developed close partnerships and relationships with the other key stakeholders and organisations in the sector and taken on various leadership roles. Come July I will have the privilege to be representing us as the DPO- Coalition’s Chairperson, allowing MDANZ to take the wheel! My various accomplishments supporting MDANZ in 2025 include: • Chairperson for the People For Us Advisory Group • MDA/DPOC Rep for Whaikaha Strategic Advisory Group • MDA/DPOC Rep for Whaikaha Accessibility Advisory Group • Disability & Accessibility Consulting for various organisations, agencies, and research groups ( Dr Angus Lindsay ) • MDANZ Rep for the Royal Commission of Inquiry “Covid Lessons Learned” • MDANZ Rep for Neuromuscular Research Foundation Trust • NZS:4121 (the building code) Refresh National Board 2026 Following the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 28th April 2026 via Zoom, we are pleased to share the confirmed Board for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand for 2026. We are grateful to have such a dedicated group guiding the organisation, and we look forward to the year ahead under their stewardship.
