FEATURE Six-year-old Odin Chapman has a big personality, a love of wrestling and an imagination that can turn almost anything into an adventure. Ask Odin about the piece of equipment sitting beside him at home and he won’t call it a hoist. To Odin, it is his “wrestling arena.” It’s the perfect place for his WWE figures to battle it out in a Royal Rumble, where Odin enthusiastically demonstrates how they can be eliminated, “boom, boom, boom!” Wrestling is one of Odin’s biggest interests right now. Spider-Man has recently been overtaken by WWE, and when he isn’t playing with his wrestling figures, Odin enjoys 3D-printed creations, playing games with his brother and spending time with his family. But Odin’s “wrestling arena” has a much more important role too. The hoist is helping his family safely transfer Odin between his wheelchair, bed, couch and bathroom, making everyday life easier for both Odin and those caring for him. As Odin grows, lifting him manually has become increasingly difficult for his family. For his mum, having the hoist has made an enormous difference.
