Queen Margaret College’s centenary year is off to an excellent start. We have a record high roll of 724, Queen Margaret House is ahead of its initial schedule with close to 30 domestic and international boarders and our Preschool has a waitlist until 2020. It was pleasing to meet so many prospective new families at our March Open Day. Our current and prospective numbers certainly show that our focus on empowering our young women to live, learn and lead adventurously is resonating with students and parents inWellington and around New Zealand. This year, we welcomed four newmembers to our Board of Governors. Sarah Burke, Guergana Guermanoff, Simon Law and John Young each bring their own talents to the Board, and I look forward to working with them. We have also said goodbye to Murray Coppersmith, who came to the end of his tenure on the Board at the end of last year. Murray served as Finance Chair, and his immeasurable contribution to QMC will be missed. As mentioned in the last issue of QMCalling , Jayne-Ann, the Executive Team and the Board have been working on the Strategic Plan to be launched during CentenaryWeekend. One of the main focuses of our last Strategic Plan, 2013’s MomentumPlus , was the development of buildings around our campus ahead of our centenary year. Since that document was launched, we have opened the Hobson Complex in 2013, the new Preschool in 2015, the Junior School Playground in 2017 and Queen Margaret House in 2018. Our strategy now builds on the legacy of the College and its solid foundations to focus on how our students can learn, build relationships and be leaders now and in the future. The big event on the College calendar this year is our CentenaryWeekend, which will be taking place from 6–9 June. The weekend will celebrate the thousands of young women who have gone through Queen Margaret College and our school’s incredible history. The opportunities we offer our young women today are a reflection of the College’s 100-year legacy. It is important to reflect on this legacy as we think about where we are heading in the future. I look forward to seeing as many members of our College community as possible during the weekend’s events. Ngā mihi nui, Andrew Knight Board Chair FROM THE BOARD 6 Queen Margaret Calling :: ISSUE 63 :: May 2019
