OUR COMMUNITY From the Old Girls’ Association We are so excited to be celebrating 100 years of QMC this year. The Old Girls’ Association committee has been working hard alongside the Centenary Committee to make CentenaryWeekend 6–9 June a wonderful occasion to be enjoyed by Old Girls and the whole school community. The Old Girls’ Association was delighted to be involved with the 100th birthday celebrations on 19 February. This date marked 100 years since QMC first opened, and we celebrated with the students by funding a special QMC-flavoured ice cream: Old- fashioned Lemonade with Blueberry Swirl. It was a delicious surprise for the school as the Zelati ice cream ambulance pulled up on the front lawn. This was a wonderful initiative organised by a group of students and shared by the school and staff at lunchtime. It seems like only yesterday I was at QMC. I was mad about sport and, much to my parents’ dismay, I only ever focused on that; school work came second. I have fond memories of my seventh form year (Year 13) when I was Head Sports Prefect. I believe to this day it was the making of me as I had to not only think of myself but focus on the school and fellow students. The school is a wonderful place and holds a lot of happy (and sometimes not so happy) memories. We are all bonded together through it, whether it be through the bricks and mortar of the buildings, the staff or the friendships we have developed over the years. When you meet other QMC Old Girls, conversation always turns to what house you were in, and the room is bound to get a little competitive but is always filled with laughter. Please join us in June for a fun weekend of catching up with old friends and sharing fond memories. Until then, take care.
