• As educators, we must understand what is happening in our school. Where there are gaps or problems, we must create tailored solutions to our unique place of learning. • Off-the-shelf options of professional learning and development, or school-wide interventions for schools, frequently fall into the one-size- fits-all category. We need external expertise to challenge our thinking; however, the greatest change occurs when we lead the change from inside our school. At Queen Margaret College, we wish to create our own courses because here one size fits one. • We will grow our Model for Learning based on the best international research available. • We will grow our staff capacity. • We will listen to our student voice and together create an environment of learning, truly representing the ethos of the 2020s. We will proudly launch our new Strategic Plan during the Centenary Weekend. At its heart are the following priorities: • Adventurous learning • Growing our people • Dynamic partnerships and communities • Creating sustainable futures • Operational and business excellence. Adventurous learning means having learning processes that are daring, courageous, audacious, bold and exploratory. As in any adventure in life, our students must be engaged, have self-belief and be prepared to take risks and to learn from failures as well as successes in the classroom and any other learning environment. Educationalists committed to improving outcomes for all students cannot continue with practices that are nearly two centuries old and designed to continue the status quo. Leadership at all levels in our system requires courage and strong pedagogical knowledge to build a sustainable future for our school and students. As the current kaitiaki, or guardian, of this school, I commit to continuing the unbroken goal of educating women in a safe, kind, asprational community. The Strategic Plan encompasses everyone, and change is not only inevitable, it is necessary. From the youngest member of the Preschool to our most senior Old Girl, and everyone in between, you all have a place here where you belong. I look forward to seeing you all at our CentenaryWeekend in June. Jayne-Ann Young Principal 5 Queen Margaret Calling :: ISSUE 63 :: May 2019
