3 Queen Margaret Calling :: ISSUE 62 :: October 2018 New Zealand is currently in the middle of reflection and review as we consider a possible shift on a wide range of social and economic issues. Commentators and analysts seem divided as to what the underlying drivers of this shift are but demographics, developments in technology and geopolitical tensions are some of the suggested factors. Our communities grapple with rights and issues which are as diverse as artificial intelligence, climate change, equality and addiction and QMC must recognise that our students, staff and community will be impacted in varying ways. We must adapt and grow with our communities and empower our students to find their place in our constantly evolving world. The Board, Jayne-Ann and the Executive Team are reviewing our strategy as we look to test ourselves and redefine the direction of the College. At the core of our strategic thinking is the educational and holistic outcomes we can create for our students and delivering operational excellence in everything we do. We have been gathering information on what learning looks like for our students and what our young women experience in the classroom as a result. The Board has also received some great insights into each department through presentations from HODs at our Board meetings. It is inspiring to see the passion of the staff at QMC and hear about their goals which will feed into developing our strategy for the College. The College remains in good heart as we continue to grow; the Preschool has a wait list, Queen Margaret House is filling up and we have a record high roll. We will continue to celebrate our achievements and our history as a community at the Centenary in June next year. The opportunities QMC offers our young women has been built on the legacy of its community over the last 100 years. It is important to reflect on what has been achieved and what QMC can do in the future to empower our young women. I wish our Senior students all the best for their exams. Study hard but also take time with friends and family to give yourself a break. Ngā mihi nui Andrew Knight Chairman FROM THE BOARD
