34 Queen Margaret Calling :: ISSUE 62 :: October 2018 LanguageWeek gives students the chance to embrace the different languages and cultures at Queen Margaret College. During the annual week-long event students fromYear 1–13 have the chance to create art, eat food and celebrate the different languages available at QMC including French, Chinese, te reo Māori, Japanese and Spanish. Celebrating language Students made the most of the sunshine and tried escargot, sushi empanadas, dumplings and as part of a special market on the front lawn. They also had the opportunity to learn Chinese calligraphy and watch a Japanese martial artist. At the end of the week an assembly was held to celebrate the benefits of learning a second language. Staff shared the second languages they could speak includingWelsh, Afrikaans and Irish. Year 13 Prefect Charlotte Barber spoke to students about learning a second language. “Learning a second language is a skill money can’t buy.
