23 Queen Margaret Calling :: ISSUE 62 :: October 2018 The Queen Margaret Chorale outside the Sydney Opera House. “The acoustics in the roomwere incredible and I still remember the sound of the last note of our song Alleluia ringing in the air,” Isobel says. “After the performance, we went backstage and hugged each other. We had all worked so hard all year. The performance was a moment of pure celebration for everyone. “We are so grateful to our musical director Mark Stamper who put so much into the Chorale for the last few years. He has really sculpted the group into who we are today.” Students fundraised to go on the trip using a variety of methods. They soldWhittaker’s chocolates in the school community and organised a raffle for a hair and dress ball package. The Chorale also held a fundraising concert with theWellington College Chorale performing to show their support. “We put together a fundraising committee, consisting of Charlotte Withers, Caitlin Goldsack, Hayley Marsh, our Chorale leadership team and myself,” Isobel says. “We were also fortunate to have three parent volunteers to help us; Charu Khera, Jane Park and Melanie Marshall.” “The performance in the Sydney Opera House was a moment of pure celebration for everyone,” Isobel says. Eleanor says the trip to the Australian International Music Festival opened doors to new opportunities and developed her confidence. “We sang as a joint mass choir which included a National Czech Republic choir, a Chinese choir and other Australian and American choirs. “This trip gave me confidence in my ability and helped with nerves to perform on stage.” Isobel says the Chorale were grateful for the support they received. “We truly had an unforgettable time in Sydney and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of those who helped us fundraise and for Mr Jenkin and Ms Logan who accompanied us,” she says.
