22 Queen Margaret Calling :: ISSUE 62 :: October 2018 The Queen Margaret Chorale took an exciting trip to Sydney in July after being invited to perform at the Australian International Music Festival. As part of the adventure the Chorale had the opportunity to perform at a range of famous Sydney venues, including the Sydney Opera House. They also had the chance to workshop with well-known musical directors and sing with choirs from around the world. Year 12 student Eleanor Burns and Year 11 student Isobel Scherf say the experience of singing at the Opera House was surreal. “We were all in awe of the opportunity to perform there. It was the first time visiting the Sydney Opera House for a lot of us. Staff commented that we were the most enthusiastic choir they had seen,” Eleanor says. SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE FROM THE COLLEGE HALL TO THE The Chorale performed their repertoire for the Big Sing as part of their 20 minute set. This included Alleluia by Paul Basler, the traditional Māori song Haere Mai Ra and Ride On King Jesus , arranged by Moses Hogan. They also sang Kyrie by Imant Raminsh, part of the Missa Brevis movement and Swinging with the Saints arranged by Mark Hayes. The Queen Margaret Chorale after performing.
