Beyond 100: A plan for our future Queen Margaret College will soon be proudly celebrating 100 years of educating young women. In addition to all of the activities planned, I am excited to have the opportunity to share our vision for where our College is going next. Through this new strategy, our challenge is to create an environment that boldly embraces the future while staying true to our ethos of the 1920s. While some things have changed in our century of education, there are others that remain constant. When our founding fathers shared their vision for this school, their aimwas to provide girls “with a sound intellectual and moral education to build a strong Christian character and a broader religious basis and thus produce the best type of girlhood and womanhood”. We’ve grown from a modest 53 students to a thriving community of 724, but that expectation, to produce the best type of woman for the day, has persisted. The continuous care of students, buildings and grounds has allowed each generation of student, teacher, principal and board member to build on the shoulders of what has gone before. Our strength is in our legacy, and our legacy is our strength. In 2013, my predecessor, Carol Craymer, presented MomentumPlus, the Strategic Plan 2013–2019. Carol, her staff and the Board fulfilled that plan. Some of these achievements include; • The embedding of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme in the Middle School • The Step In, Step Up and Step Out campaign providing seamless movement through the four schools • Superb beyond-the-classroom experiences, such as EOTC, camps and global trips • The Hobson Complex, purpose-built Preschool, Junior School Playground and outdoor space, and Queen Margaret House (the first boarding house for young women inWellington) have all been built since 2013. Our leavers understand that as a result of attending this school, they are fully prepared as passionate learners, resilient women and future leaders. As we advance into the next technological age and embrace the impact of constant and dynamic change, our focus shifts towards how our students learn and how we empower them for their futures. To this end, we have been developing our Queen Margaret College approach to learning. This focuses on preparing our learners for participation and citizenship beyond school and developing the skills and dispositions needed for success in an innovative, global, responsive society. • As a school, our agility and flexibility in delivering education is critical for all our stakeholders, especially our students.
