Stay up to date about our events! Professor Maurice Curtis: Honouring Philip Wrightson Remembering Dr John Carman, a founder COVID-19’s striking impact on the brain Acceptance Spoked Tour Aotearoa Meet a Researcher: Dr Lola Mugisho A Man of Many Parts: William (Bill) Stanley Miller Kia ora, Research is the core purpose of the Neurological Foundation – to help find answers for the 1 in 5 Kiwis affected by a neurological condition. There are well over 700 neurological conditions and diseases, and the research you support helps to uncover a number of these. Our autumn issue is bursting with research updates, made possible because of people like you. I hope you enjoy diving into this edition to discover what these dedicated scientists, clinicians and researchers are working on. They are on the cusp of discovery, and it is only through supporters like yourself that they are where they are today, so thank you on their behalf. Dr Helen Murray, a recently funded scientist from the Centre for Brain Research, is providing answers for roughly 128 million people who have suffered from COVID-19. Her work in Professor Maurice Curtis’ lab on understanding the olfactory bulb in Alzheimer’s patients, helped her investigate the loss of smell COVID-19 patients suffer from. Although we did not directly fund her COVID-19 research, our earlier funding has helped her get to where she is. In this issue we also share some of our supporters’ stories. Our supporters play such a vital role in enabling the Foundation to invest in comprehensive neurological research which is the best way to make a difference for the future. No matter how our supporters show their support, every donation takes us further along the pathway to hope. For 50 years the Neurological Foundation has been a beacon of hope for those living with a neurological condition. As supporters of the Foundation, you should feel incredibly proud of the funding you have provided the scientists, clinicians and researchers featured in this edition of Headlines, and the many more over the years. You have supported them to remarkable heights with your donations, your generosity is humbling – thank you.
