2 Headlines Must have answers to your scientific questions! Protecting babies’ brains for the future by Dr Max Berry Healthy eating and the brain Flashes of Brilliance The life cycle of a researcher and neurological research Meet our Fundraising team Under the Arch by Dr Kormal Srinivasa Hope for a brighter future Leaving a Legacy of Hope Meet the researcher: Dr Lynette Sadlier Welcome! I am so excited to share this edition of Headlines with you! Every quarter we bring you research updates from scientists and clinicians you fund, new grant round information, and personal stories from our donors. And for this edition of Headlines you’ll be getting an in-depth look at the heart of the Foundation – our Fundraising team! On pages 11-13 you’ll read about Margie, Theresa and Kellie – our hardworking and vibrant Fundraising team. They keep us connected to our communities of supporters throughout New Zealand and are our champions in their regions. We know so much about our supporters because of the Fundraising team, so now it’s your chance to get to know them and their own personal reasons for why they work at the Neurological Foundation. This is the final edition of 2020 and when I look back on what this year has brought us, the emergence of COVID-19, I see a legion of supporters willing to go the extra mile to continue their support of neurological research. No one could possibly understand the ramifications of COVID-19, but that didn’t stop you. You continued to amaze us with your unwavering support throughout it all, and I cannot say thank you enough. On behalf of the Foundation, the scientists, the clinicians and those one in five kiwis living with a neurological condition – thank you. You have made a difference. I’m now looking ahead to 2021, our 50th anniversary. Yes! The Neurological Foundation has been around for 50 years next year. It is going to be a whirlwind of events, stories and a chance for our supporters to celebrate their contribution to the advancement of neurological research. Without all of you, we would have never been able to make it this far. Your support has enabled us to fund the ground-breaking research we have for the last 50 years. Keep an eye out in January for our special edition magazine that will cover achievements over the last 50 years and give you a sneak peek at what’s to come throughout the year. The last edition of Headlines for the year is always a bittersweet one. We won’t be in touch until after the holidays, so I’d like to wish each and every one of you, a happy, joyous and safe holiday spent with family, friends and loved ones. Keep in touch if there is anything the Foundation can assist with.
