Headlines 13 No one could’ve imagined that on 25 March 2020 New Zealand would be in lockdown. No more gatherings, no more going to work, no more school or university, and definitely no more research in the lab – the entire country shut down for four weeks. This was a devastating blow to the research community; some were just starting their research and at the brink of exploration and others were only weeks or months away from completing yearlong projects. This lockdown was going to have a ripple effect that would last months after it was over. As the only dedicated charity that funds neurological research in New Zealand, it was our responsibility to step up and support as many researchers as we could, to ensure their research could withstand the initial four-week lockdown and beyond. Although we couldn’t save their specimens or research, we were able to support 75 funded scientists, clinicians and students, so that they could continue their research once labs and clinics re-opened. None of this would have been able to occur without you, our supporters. Because of the generous support of our donors, including those who have passed away and left the Foundation a gift in their will, we were able to support these scientists, clinicians and students, with over $800,000 going towards salaries and crucial working expenses. Neurological research beyond COVID-19 To say thank you, the researchers wanted to tell you exactly how your support has lifted their spirits and helped them continue with their research.
