Impact Report 2023 Fromour CEO Long-time supporters of the Neurological Foundation will have noticed that one of our key statistics changed in the past year. We used to say that one in five Kiwis are affected by a neurological condition, but that’s been updated to one in three. This got me thinking about those close tome. When I started with the Foundation in 2018, my grandmother was the only person I knewwho’d baƒled a neurological condition. Other than that, I had no real context or lived experience. Now, as I approachmy seventh year with the Foundation, things have changed. My wife, children, mother, and a number of colleagues all experience migraines, which I had never thought of as a neurological condition before I joined the Foundation. Other people dear tome have suffered the debilitating effects of stroke and Alzheimer’s disease. So, in a fewshort years, my connection to those living with neurological conditions has grown a lot. Theone-in-three is nowmore real, andpersonal, than I hadexpected. The need to find treatments, preventions and, one day, cures, is greater than ever. Of course, groundbreaking research takes time. The work that our generous supporters have helped fund in the past year represents vital steps along the way. Please enjoy reading about some of the highlights in the following pages. This is the kind of impact that is made when exceptional supporters join forces with extraordinary researchers. Rich Easton
