Season’s greetings to one and all. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is almost here already – where did this year go, and who could have imagined the challenges & triumphs 2022 would bring. Each year that passes seems to have its own character – there are always challenges, and maybe a low point here and there, but I can truly say that these past twelve months have been as full a year as I can remember. The cost-of-living crisis is putting pressure on us all and as an Association, we have seen a rapid increase in demand for our services, and a need to expand our services in providing support for mental health, digital connectivity, and member engagement. Fortunately, MDANZ had a very successful Annual Appeal in September, the Roll 1k for MDA campaign. Together with members, staff, whānau, and communities, we raised more than $35,000 to go towards the branches to run local, community-based events. We know the funds will be used to drive engagement and connection within our membership. As always, we are looking ahead and there is more to do. We are about to embark on our strategic planning process for the years ahead, and we will report on that further in our upcoming In Touch magazines. Our number one priority is our Fieldwork support service, as well as our role Kōrero with Trevor FROM THE DESK Trevor Jenkin National Executive Chairperson in advocacy and communications, and these will always remain the cornerstones of our work. As 2022 draws to a close, I want to thank our hard-working team of staff, National Councillors, branch committees, and volunteers throughout the country who have worked hard to continue our services for you, our members. I am really proud of what we have managed to achieve this year in trying times. On behalf of the National Council and staff, I wish you and your whānau a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the break and hopefully you get a chance to head away and check out one of the amazing accessible beaches around the country. Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te Tau Hou.
