4 | InTouch JUNE 2022 NEWS UPDATE The 2022 MDANZ Annual General Meeting was held on April 29 via Zoom. Members and staff were among those who attended. National Executive Chairperson Trevor Jenkin presented his report and spoke to MDANZ’s response to its values – sustainable, empowering, connected and proactive. Trevor stood for re-election as National Executive Chairperson and was elected unopposed. Scott Boyle (South Island Region) was elected unopposed as National Vice Chairperson. Due to two Councillor’s terms ending, nominations were called for three Councillor positions (there was one existing vacant position). Two nominations were received for the three vacancies. John Hawkins and Francesca Herdahl-Thorsing (Central Region) were elected as Councillors-at-Large. At the AGM, a motion was passed to recruit a South Island member to the vacant Councillor position. MDANZ held its Annual General Meeting at the end of April, and we’d like to introduce you to the National Council’s newest members. AGM update 2022 Rebecca Poad has been appointed as a Councillor-at-Large. John, Francesca, and Rebecca join existing Councillors Tony Antunovich and Joy Jenkin (Northern Region). The branch representatives were announced at each region’s AGM and they are Yaz Dolbel-Neville (Northern), Tristram Ingham (Central), and TBC (South Island). John Hawkins I have been part of the Central Branch Committee for 10+ years and my wife Lyn and myself are life members of MDANZ. I have been the Central Region rep helping to distribute the Bradley Jenkin Memorial Trust Fund. I am retired from the regular workforce these days, so have time to put into worthwhile groups, between pottering around trying to keep our house and garden looking presentable. I don’t have a neuromuscular condition myself – that’s my wife’s department. Because of this Lyn has lived in a wheelchair for about 38 years now, so we are well aware of the challenges this creates for people with inherited conditions. We have two married children and four grandchildren, which are a joy and a blessing to us. Francesca Herdahl-Thorsing I am currently one year into my two-year term as Secretary of the MDANZ Central Branch and would like the opportunity to learn more about the other branches and regions that make up the Association. I’m also interested in learning more about the national organisation and fieldwork services. Having this understanding would give me a more all-rounded perspective of MDANZ. I would like to represent younger members with conditions whilst also representing the Central Region. I am very organised and Trevor Jenkin John Hawkins Francesca Herdahl-Thorsing Rebecca Poad
