South Island Colgate Games 2022 | 8 HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARENESS STATEMENT The 2022 Colgate Games Local Organising Committee (LOC) commits to: • Maximising the wellness of athletes, officials, volunteers and visitors who attend the 2022 Colgate Games. • Maintaining excellence in Health & Safety practice To achieve this, the LOC ask officials, volunteers and visitors whilst attending the Colgate Games to: • Demonstrate a commitment to keep themselves and others safe • Proactively identify hazards and unsafe behaviours and notify a LOC representative or Athletics NZ staff member so that all steps can be taken to manage these to as low as reasonably practicable • Encourage their friends and colleagues to participate in hazard identification and control • Listen to, obey, and broadcast instruction about safety or evacuation procedures • Report all incidents including near misses that are in your event or in a public area and learn from these incidents • Comply with event procedures, stadium safety rules and instruction from the LOC Some general safety tips: • Facilities – be aware of slippery paths, grass slopes, rock walls, uneven surfaces, wire fencing and wet floors in toilet blocks. Do not touch electrical cables (such as food vendor trucks) • People – be aware of crowded areas, small children, sunburn, actions, and movement in warm up arena • Environment – be aware of carpark and internal road traffic, wind-blown dust, and hot sun. Please stay out of the competition arena unless you are an athlete or official
