OUR COMMUNITY From the Parents’ Association Over the past few months, we have worked on a number of events to support the school and increase parent networking in our school community. Firstly our congratulations to the Old Girls’ Association and the Centenary Committee on delivering a happy and successful Centenary Weekend. The school was alight with stories, shared history, connections old and new – all the result of many hours of planning. What a fantastic success. With the start of Term 2, the QMCPA once again welcomed all new parents to a morning tea. We see such a positive response to the morning tea and delight in those new connections being formed. We also appreciate the senior staff who attend to support the positive initiative and the families starting and navigating their time at Queen Margaret College. In August, we held a bingo evening with “Ethel and Bethel Bingo Babes”. This was a real move away from our previous parent evenings and, with much hilarity and laughter, it was a great success. Thank you to all parents and friends of the school who attended. We were delighted to have in excess of 120 bingo players. Our sincere thanks to all sponsors who provided prizes and auction items, which allowed the committee to raise over $5,000. A key focus for the QMCPA is to raise funds to provide the school with a mini van, a vital piece in the puzzle to ease pressure on transportation of students. The bingo evening kick started our fundraising efforts, so a very big thank you to everyone involved. The remaining months of the year prove to be a very busy one for our small committee. If you wish to donate any time to assist us with our activities, please don’t hesitate to contact the committee secretary at qmcpasecretary@qmc.school.nz Finally, I would like to acknowledge Andi Shirtcliffe, a long serving and proactive member of the QMCPA who recently stepped aside from her duties on the association. Andi fulfilled various roles on the QMCPA since joining the school community in 2009. Andi was President for a term before moving into the role as Lady Vice President, a role she held until her resignation. She also represented the QMCPA on the QMC Board of Governors from 2016 admirably. The current committee and those previous have spoken highly of Andi and her willingness to lead, help and advise. Committees past and our current QMCPA wish Andi all the very best and thank her for her service.
