ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT 2022 The Foundation is fortunate to be led by a Council of astute and highly experienced people from various sectors. It’s a privilege to Chair this group of committed volunteers, who together make sound decisions during challenging times. Echoing Rich’s comments in his CEO Report, it was an honour to grant Dr Barry Snow a lifetime membership to the Foundation. This is an important acknowledgement of Barry’s contributions to the Foundation, the research community, and the clinical care of people living with neurological conditions. We farewelled Council members Deb Peters and Baden Ewart this year, and I thank them immensely for their service. We also farewelled James Ring before the end of the year due to other commitments, and we thank him for his contributions. I was delighted to welcome our new Council members Georgina Hunter and Anna Lissaman, bringing valuable perspectives to our panel. Georgina has a sales, marketing and communications background within the healthcare, pharmaceutical and technology industries. Anna’s background is in human resources with a particular focus on organisation cultural and digital transformation. I’d also like to acknowledge the hard work behind the scenes of the staff at the Neurological Foundation for swiftly moving our Council meetings from in-person to online during COVID-19. The pandemic has caused resource shortages in many sectors and as such, our auditors have had to delay our annual financial audit due to staffing issues. This means the financial statements that would normally appear in this report are not yet available. They will be made available on the Neurological Foundation website as soon as they are available. The audit work is planned to begin later in August. In the meantime, I can share the good news that with strong and consistent support from our donor community, we were able to increase our investment in research this year compared to previous years. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped support the Foundation this year: our Councillors, members of the scientific committees, the Neurological Foundation team, and most importantly, our supporters and donors, without whom none of this would be possible. . Professor Cathy Stinear FROM OUR CHAIR Professor Cathy Stinear We live in a world that’s very different to 50 years ago - or even 5 years ago. Adapting to change has helped us sustain our critical role in funding neurological research. “...with strong and consistent support from our donor community, we were able to increase our investment in research this year compared to previous years.” 5
