ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT 2022 FUNDRAISING, AWARENESS & EDUCATION by Kerry McLeod, Head of Supporter Relations Our supporter relations team has been buoyed by continuing to work with you all, albeit through new and different ways, to raise funds and awareness when there is so much else going on in the world. Each day we have been reminded of the importance of working together for the bigger picture. We truly are all in this together, and we are grateful for each other, and everyone connected to the Foundation’s goals and mission. Our role in helping life-changing research to continue has been so rewarding. We are excited to continue innovating and growing to share the work being achieved in neuroscience with more people. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT We have a shared purpose with our communities – to find new treatments and a brighter future for people with neurological conditions. Our regular speaking events connect the discoveries being made with the people who support brain research. COVID-19 disruptions meant many of our engagements shifted online, while others were able to be held in person. Thank you for responding so generously to this year’s Annual Appeal, which focused on getting research disrupted by COVID-19 back on track. It was one of our most successful campaigns ever! It is fantastic that you, our supporters, recognised the importance of helping the extraordinary projects and people we fund to keep going in extraordinary times. We also received incredible support from Mitre 10, our key partner, who joined in and included the campaign in both their digital and in-store channels. CELEBRATING FIFTYYEARS In 2021, the Foundation celebrated its Golden Jubilee year. Since 1971, over 500 scientists, clinicians and students have been funded by the Foundation. Three esteemed experts in neurological research gave public talks to mark our 50th anniversary and were profiled in Headlines magazine. Each had received either a VJ Chapman or Wrightson fellowship early in their careers. HEWAKA EKE NOA –WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. These words have helped guide and support us all through unprecedented times. With the world facing new challenges and best-laid plans disrupted, it has been an absolute privilege to work through this uncharted period with such incredible donors and supporters, clinicians, and scientists. 13 PHYSICAL EVENTS AND 21 DIGITAL EVENTS TOOK PLACE THIS YEAR FOUR ONLINE TALKS WERE GIVEN DURING U3A INVERCARGILL’S BRAIN HEALTHWEEK. 2600 PEOPLE GENEROUSLY DONATED TO OUR ANNUAL APPEAL FIVEDIGITAL EVENTSWEREHELDDURING BRAINAWARENESSMONTH, REACHINGOVER 600 PEOPLE.
