NEUROLOGICAL FOUNDATION INAUGURAL DAWN FELLOWSHIP In 2019 the Dawn estate gifted $3m to the Neurological Foundation to fund an ongoing fellowship for research into Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT), Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease. In 2021 the inaugural Dawn Fellowship was awarded to Dr Whitney Whitford to unravel the genetics of CMT in New Zealand. RUGBY RESEARCH Professor Nick Draper from the University of Canterbury is assessing the number and size of collisions in rugby, and the potential of headgear to mitigate brain injuries for junior rugby players. His study initially focused on male players and was funded by the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation. An additional two- year grant from the Neurological Foundation enabled Dr Draper to double the size of his study and include a female rugby team.
