What is your role at the Foundation? If you flick us an email or give us a call, chances are I’m the one on the other end! Officially, I’m the Finance Administrator, which is just a fancy way of saying I have fingers in a few different pies, the biggest being day-to-day support for supporters. If you described your role as a metaphor, what would you be? I suppose I’m like a flight attendant. I don’t fly the plane, but I’m the first face you see when you board and I’m the one helping you with the little things that make your experience with us the best it can be. What do you love about working at the Foundation? I’m so honoured when our gorgeous supporters share their stories with me. I hear stories of loss, grief and pain and wish I could wave a magic wand and make everything better for them. We can’t guarantee a cure, but I know progress is happening, inching forward. Research isn’t a quick, instant gratification type of investment, but it is exactly that – an investment – in a collective, brighter future for the one in three with neurological conditions. Do you have a message for our supporters? I can’t say thank you enough. Every day our supporters make me smile. From a lovely chat about gardening (and a few tips for my vege patch!), a quick phone call to let us know how much you enjoy reading Headlines, or a gorgeous new supporter who wants to set up regular giving or a gift in their Will. It’s an absolute privilege when someone contacts us to donate in memory of a loved one. I often get to hear the story of the incredible person it honours. It’s such a beautiful way to remember someone. Apart from your struggling vege patch, what else can you tell us about yourself? I’m the typical middle child with an older brother and younger sister. We all grew up in Whenuapai/Hobsonville where I still live. We love animals. I have three cats, and two little fluffy dogs who grew up with golden retrievers so they think they are big dogs. I have recently returned to studying toward a Bachelor of Science part-time. I love discovering how things work and I’m excited to see what I learn. I look forward to hearing from you all in the future! Headlines 17 “I’m so honoured when our gorgeous supporters share their stories with me." Meet Anna, the friendly voice with a big heart The cheerful voice that greets you when you contact the Neurological Foundation belongs to Anna Barrow. You’d be surprised to know Anna just turned 20, yet is mature far beyond their years. They tell us a little about themselves and why they genuinely love chatting with our community of supporters.
