14 | InTouch SPRING 2025 TURNING CHALLENGES INTO NEW POSSIBILITIES When Andrew first began losing mobility due to FSHD, he refused to let it stop him from getting outdoors. Instead, he engineered a new way forward. FEATURE Rugged tracks, sandy trails, open paddocks — the Motom was made for adventure, freedom, and the outdoors. Motom: Freedom to keep exploring Ten years ago, Andrew Nash found himself facing a new reality. Living with Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD), he was beginning to feel the limits of where he could go and what activities he could do. But with a background in mechanical engineering, and a love for hands-on design, Andrew set out to solve that problem himself. The result was the Motom: a powerful, electric, all-terrain three-wheeler built to go where traditional mobility equipment couldn’t. Rugged tracks, sandy trails, open paddocks — the Motom was made for adventure, freedom, and the outdoors. “I designed and built the first Motom because I wanted to stay active and keep adventuring,”Andrew says. “It gave me back the ability to enjoy the wild outdoors, and I realised others could benefit too.” Above: Andrew heading off for an overnight trip. Over the years, Andrew refined the design and hand-built Motoms for people across Aotearoa, each one customised to meet unique needs. For many, it became a life- changing vehicle, restoring not just mobility, but the joy of independence and exploration. But as time went on, the physical demands of building these vehicles became too much. In early 2025, Andrew made the decision to pass the torch: selling the Motom business to Vehicle Adaptions, a company with the skills, expertise, and capacity to take production further. “I know Motom is in good hands,”Andrew shares. “Vehicle Adaptions has the ability to continue manufacturing and reach more people. My hope is that many more lives will be expanded with a Motom.” Today, Vehicle Adaptions proudly carries that vision forward. After working closely with Andrew over the past year, the team is now building Motoms to order, with the same smart design, adventurous spirit, and full customisation options. The Motom remains what it has always been: a gateway back to the outdoors. Whether it’s exploring rugged bush tracks, enjoying the beach, or simply joining family adventures, it’s more than a vehicle... it’s freedom.
